Diggity Dog Fun & Facts

And people wonder why their dogs bite them.

Is Your Dog Naughtier Than Buddie?

Buddie Burns is a young Golden Retriever that has been coming to Diggity Dog Daycare for about a month or two. Buddie is a classic example of a dog that NEEDS to be here. Here is a small list of things Buddie has “enjoyed”………….. 6 pairs of shoes, 1 car steering wheel, 1 new comforter, a digital camera, several food items (of the people variety) and his talent for opening doors has led him to enjoy opening dresser drawers and finding great entertainment in chewing several pairs of undies and a number of bras. The Burns’ love Buddie and have been very patient with him. Now they are even more happy him cuz he’s too tuckered to damage anything after being at Diggity Dog Daycare.

Dear God:
If a dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad dog?

Can Dogs Tell When a Woman is Pregnant?
Recently my dog Dusti and I were in Madison, Wisconsin. As we always do when we’re in Madison we went to one of the many wonderful dog parks in the area. My personal favorite is one located near Verona, Wisconsin on county highway PB. It is a work out for human and dog alike. It has many trails, hills, trees, vegetation and is a walk of nearly 2 miles from start to return. On this day we met up with a woman and her sweater clad Weimaraner. As is a custom of mine, I went to greet the dog and he started barking at me and keeping his distance. Not an aggressive or threatening bark, just barking for his own reason. The woman apologized for him saying he’s a great dog but lately he’s started barking when people approach her. She didn’t know why he demonstrated this anti-social behavior. As we continued to talk another dog came running in to say hi. The Weimaraner then positioned his behind in front of the on coming dog. He kept this obvious defensive posture and prevented the other dog from getting close to his owner (the woman). The dog stayed either at the woman’s side or behind her and continued to “butt” the other dog from coming close. It was never a maneuver of overt aggression but certainly was one of defense. It was at that time the woman mentioned she was pregnant. I asked if this behavior started at about that time. You could see by the look on her face and the big light bulb going off over her head that indeed this behavior started shortly after she became pregnant. This in itself makes some sense. We all know what a strong sense of smell and intuition dogs possess. Seems to reason therefore that hormonal changes may lead to detectable scent changes that dogs may be tune into. When I returned home I researched this possibility. According to the website www.thepetprofessor.com these actions by a dog may be in response to the human female pregnancy:
Over clinginess
Protectiveness
Elimination related issues
Aloofness
Excessive attention seeking
Anxiety (pacing, licking etc)
We as humans can not underestimate the strength of many senses dogs possess.

When we get to the Pearly Gates, do we have to shake hands to get in?

Diggity Dog Email:

This is an email we received from a long time Viszla owner.

Found a new Viszla breeder in Arkansas that's putting out some of the best southern pointing dogs in the country, so I ordered a new pup! I sent a picture... parents are on the left...she's the one on the right.
